Some believe making side guards on those trucks mandatory, would make a difference by keeping those individuals from getting under the wheels of the truck.
Another issue is vehicles travelling too fast. Speed plays a role in how serious a pedestrian’s injuries are following a crash. The fix for this is simple—reducing the speed limit on roads throughout the city.
Distracted drivers could also result in pedestrian accidents occurring. Whatever the distraction, educating both drivers and pedestrians about the dangers of not focusing on your surroundings, could make a difference in the number of pedestrian accidents that occur.
Last, accidents of this nature could occur when pedestrians cross the street in the middle of a block, rather than walking to the corner. Installing more mid-blocking crossings could be used to combat this issue.
