The accident report states that three teenagers, believed to be 13 years old, were on a sidewalk in Toronto around 8:30 p.m. when an SUV driven by a 44-year-old man reportedly rear-ended a car driven by a 35-year-old man. The force of the impact caused the SUV to leave the road and strike the group of teens on the sidewalk. One boy escaped with minor injuries, but the siblings were rushed to Sick Kids Hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the SUV now stands charged with criminal negligence and dangerous driving. The driver of the car is also facing charges for allegedly being drunk at the time of the accident, even though his vehicle did not strike the children. Neither individual has been assigned a court date as of this report.
Car accidents causing injuries are always stringently investigated by Ontario authorities. If they determine the SUV driver was materially responsible for the crash, he could face jail time.
