On July 9, an Ontario man was killed in an accident involving two vehicles in Brampton. The crash occurred at the intersection of Highway 50 and Cottrelle Boulevard at around 9:05 a.m.
According to media reports, officers from the Peel Regional Police responded to the accident scene and found that a passenger vehicle had collided with a transport truck. They located a male driver trapped inside the passenger vehicle and worked with paramedics to extricate him. He did not survive the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. However, the driver of the transport truck was uninjured.
Police collision and forensic identification investigators later determined that the transport truck was headed northbound on Highway 50 when it smashed into the passenger vehicle at Cottrelle Boulevard, pushing it around 700 metres north of the intersection. Parts of Highway 50, Cottrelle Boulevard and Langstaff Road were closed while crews cleared the scene.
After every major collision, law enforcement officers investigate the scene to determine the cause. This information can be critical for victims who have been injured in the accident. For instance, if the police find that another driver was responsible for the crash, an attorney could use the accident investigation report as the basis for a personal injury claim on the victim's behalf, which could lead to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages and other costs. If a victim dies, the attorney may also use the report to support a wrongful death claim on behalf of the victim's family. This type of claim could help the family obtain compensation for funeral and burial expenses, loss of income and other accident-related losses.
