Car accidents: 2 dead in Ontario crash

The evening of Oct. 13 was the date of tragedy, according to local police. Ontario authorities responsible for overseeing car accidents are calling the crash in Mississauga "horrific." The accident left two people dead on Dixie Road around 7:30 p.m. Police are still investigating the particulars of the crash, and they have yet to file any charges.

According to reports released by police, a vehicle with three people apparently went under a tractor-trailer that was making a left-hand turn at Dixie Road and Aerowood Drive. The force of the impact wedged the car underneath the truck, requiring emergency workers to extricate the three people in the car. The 20-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the site of the accident.

The 22-year-old male driver had no vital signs when police arrived. He was rushed to a local hospital and succumbed to his injuries later that day. The only survivor was a 21-year-old male passenger, who sustained serious injuries and was also rushed to hospital for treatment. Bystanders said the vehicle may have been speeding when the collision occurred. Police have not charged the truck driver with a crime at this time.

Car accidents in which the drivers most likely to be held responsible are killed usually do not result in charges, as such charges are not filed posthumously. Regardless, Ontario authorities will conduct a thorough investigation, including interviewing witnesses and the truck driver, to get the full story. Should the deceased driver be found to have materially contributed to the accident by speeding, the family of the deceased passenger, as well as the injured survivor, will both be entitled to file wrongful death and/or personal injury suits against the driver's estate, as well as anyone else who owned the vehicle involved.
