Woman dies in Ontario crash

A woman is dead following a fatal crash in Bowmanville on the afternoon of Aug. 17, local sources have reported. Durham Regional Police responded to the car accident that closed roads for several hours. Car accidents of this type are generally investigated by local authorities with the support of Ontario Provincial Police. 

The accident report states that a pickup truck headed northbound entered an intersection before striking a westbound car driven by a 73-year-old woman. The force of the impact caused the car to leave the road and enter a ditch. The elderly woman was rushed to a local hospital, but her injuries were severe enough to warrant a transport to a hospital in Toronto. She was later pronounced dead of those injuries. 

The driver of the pickup truck was a 72-year-old individual who suffered only minor injuries in the crash. That driver was treated at a local hospital. Police are still attempting to determine which of the drivers had the right of way at the time of the crash. They have asked for the support of the local community in determining the cause of the accident and which driver was responsible for it. 

In car accidents in which the causes of the crashes are not immediately obvious, Ontario police are required to conduct in-depth investigations, which includes the gathering of witness statements. In such a case, if they determine that one driver is more responsible in a material way for the crash, the other party or his or her representatives may be entitled to file a personal injury or wrongful death suit against the other driver. Civil suits of this nature do not rely upon criminal convictions or even charges, only that enough evidence of culpability exists.
