1 dead, 1 injured in Ontario collision

A collision between a car and a motorcycle has claimed one life and sent another person to the hospital. Car accidents involving motorcycles are more common in the summertime, when Ontario highways are often home to amateur and professional motorcycle enthusiasts alike. Police are still in the process of determining what caused this tragic accident.

The accident report does not provide a great deal of information since the investigation is still underway at this time. It has been confirmed that the accident took place near Brampton on the afternoon of Aug. 18. County police attached to the Major Collision Bureau were on the scene investigating the cause of the crash.

Apparently, the motorcycle and car collided on Highway 50, and one person was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unclear which of the two vehicles that individual was driving at the time of the crash. The other individual is in serious condition and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Police have not commented publicly on whether they believe speeding, recklessness or alcohol were factors in this crash.

Too little information is available in this report to make an accurate determination of how this tragic case will play out. In car accidents in which the causes are not readily obvious, Ontario police will work tirelessly to find the reasons for the accidents. If it happens that the surviving driver is found to have caused the crash, that individual may face criminal charges. Regardless of which individual was responsible, the other party or his or her representatives will be entitled to file civil suits even if no formal charges are filed.
