Truck driver inattentiveness could lead to devastating outcome

There is no question that trucks play an important role in Canada when it comes to transporting goods from one place to another. Most of the time, these vehicles make it to their destination without experiencing any issues. Other times however they collide with other trucks and cars that they share the road with. When this happens the outcome can be devastating. A recent crash on Hwy 400 in Ontario, illustrates this.

Four people—including a young child—were killed when they were involved in a collision with a transport truck. Three of those individuals—including the child—were in one vehicle. In all, 11 vehicles were involved in the incident.

According to authorities, in seeking the cause of the crash they are focusing on that transport truck. Its driver reportedly failed to reduce the speed of the vehicle when it encountered slower traffic.

Following the collision a driver trainer indicated how important it is for drivers to constantly pay attention to what is happening on the road. According to that trainer, it is the responsibility of the truck driver to make sure he or she can stop the 80,000 pound vehicle when necessary. When a driver fails to pay attention to the road or follows another driver too closely, that can be difficult to do and the outcome can be disastrous.
