Police department seeks to reduce pedestrian accidents

Walking is a popular mode of transportation for people of all ages in Mississauga. As it turns out, it can also be dangerous. In 2015 Peel Regional Police indicates that on streets in Mississauga and Brampton, a total of 633 pedestrians were struck by cars or trucks. This resulted in 496 people suffering injuries and 13 deaths.

Recently, the Peel Regional Police released a video designed to reduce the number of these incidents that occur. It is geared toward pedestrians and implores them to not “be a statistic.” Of course it is not only pedestrians who are responsible for preventing these incidents. There are many negligent activities that drivers could engage in that could cause them to hit a pedestrian. Among other things, negligence could take the form of distracted driving.

Following a pedestrian accident the most important thing to do is of course to get the necessary medical treatment. Because most pedestrians who are hit have little to protect them, depending on how fast the vehicle was travelling when the collision occurred, it is possible that the injuries suffered will be severe and require extensive treatment. After that care is secured, it may make sense to look into your legal options.
