Bounce houses can be dangerous for children

When throwing a party, or coordinating a festival for children, there are many different activities that could be organized. Easy to rent, bounce houses are a popular choice in both scenarios. While fun, there is a certain amount of risk tied to using them. In addition to children colliding or accidentally jumping on each other, over the course of the past few years other safety issues have come to light. An issue that has been in the news multiple times, throughout the world, is the risk of a bounce house with children in it, being blown away by a gust of wind. This recently occurred in the United Kingdom.

A 7-year-old girl was playing in the bounce house when the wind caught it. Following the incident an ambulance was called and she was transported to a hospital. Sadly, there she succumbed to her injuries. Though this did not occur in Ontario, it is easy to see how it could.

The bounce house was erected at a family-friendly festival. It is unclear if there were issues with the way it was anchored but two individuals, who are believed to have been working for the company responsible for running the attraction, were arrested and face criminal charges.

There is no good way to deal with the unexpected and senseless loss of a child. While nothing can be done to undo the incident that lead to the loss, in some cases pursuing legal action provides a sense of closure that makes it easier to move forward. If successful, the case could also result in financial compensation for the loss.
