Man charged in Ontario forklift death

A man was arrested and charged in relation to an industrial accident at a steel company in north Mississauga. The accident involved a forklift and the death of another man on March 23. Peel Regional Police responded to the accident on Kennedy Road with Peel Regional Paramedics shortly after 9:30 a.m.

According to police and paramedics, a 62-year-old man was working by a truck full of large cylinders of steel when a forklift hit him. A source close to the incident says that the 42-year-old male driver of the forklift fled the scene at the time of the accident. Initially, emergency personnel were there on a medical call. However, an investigation revealed that there was an industrial mishap. No other information was disclosed about the incident. However, the older man reportedly died at the scene.

The forklift driver was later arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a collision that resulted in death. The driver, who has no fixed address, remains in police custody at least until his bail hearing.

Most people probably think of traffic accidents on roads when they hear that a driver left the scene of an accident. However, individuals who are operating industrial equipment are also held accountable if they leave the scene of an accident while they are driving equipment.

If drivers of industrial equipment are responsible for causing crashes that result in the death of others, the relatives of the deceased could file wrongful death claims against them. This allows the relatives to seek compensation for the economic and non-economic damages that they have suffered because of their loved ones' deaths. The relatives could ask lawyers for help in proving negligence in wrongful death cases.
